My Creative Design Work I studied Graphic Design at Amersham College of Art (U.K) and completed my B.A. degree thesis on the design and marketing of British music in the Japanese market, achieving a 2.1 degree.
Before transitioning into teaching, I worked as a junior graphic designer at The Entertainment Network (T.E.N) and as a manager and music promoter for local bands. Both roles involved graphic design and the production of music-related materials, including posters, flyers, packaging, branding, and booklets.
I also worked as an editorial graphic designer at the creative design agency DSQUARED.
For creative work, I primarily use Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro DC. For website development, I mainly work with WordPress and Weebly, incorporating custom HTML coding when necessary. For collaboration, I utilize Google Docs, Dropbox, Wetransfer, and Google Drive.
Since moving to Japan, I have continued to refine my design skills and have participated in several projects that allow me to grow professionally as a print and web designer. Below are some of the larger projects I have been involved in during my free time.
Black Hook Press (2013 - 2022) - Publisher I managed Black Hook Press, a registered Japanese micro-publisher.
We designed and published books in translation. One of our publications, "That Miyoko Asagaya Feeling," was nominated for an Eisner Award in the category of 'Best Archival Collection/Project—Comic Books' in 2020.
Bartkira Project Bartkira is a global collaboration of over 500 artists who recreated the manga series 'AKIRA' (Otomo Katsuhiro) using characters and settings from 'The Simpsons' (Matt Groening). The full 2,146-page series was completed in July 2017.
I design and maintain the Bartkira website, overseeing both the coding and visual design. Additionally, I have edited volumes, coordinated with artists, organized exhibitions, and created promotional materials, including posters, flyers, and books for the project.
